Cardillo Elected to the School Committee by a 10-9 count;
Barros a Unanimous choice

Millie Cardello beat out newcomer Amanda Patterson in balloting by the City Council/School Committee convention held Monday evening at city hall.

The vote was 10-9.

Cardello graciously accepted her victory after being sworn in by City Clerk Sergio Cornelio.

The Pattersons left the chamber immediately following the vote.

Cardello now fills the seat left vacant by Richard Baniewicz’s death last month.

Mr. Baniewicz, a longtime School Committeeman, was 67.

Also re-elected Monday evening was Marcony Almeida Barros, who won a convention vote in December when he filled the seat of the late Robert Carreiro.

By law, he had to be re-elected in the New Year, something he achieved with a unanimous vote.

Those councilors voting against Cardello were: Wayne Matewsky, Peter Napolitano, Fred Capone, John Hanlon, Anthony DiPierro, Michael MacLaughlin, and Mike Marchese.
