Homecoming cooked?

It appears that only the intervention of the City Council can bring back to life the annual Homecoming citywide weekend celebration which now appears dead on arrival as part of next year’s School Department budget.

The mayor says he does not want it because it costs too much. The superintendent of schools is fed up with the mayor’s negative talk about the celebration being a waste of money.

The special finance commission apparently agrees.

Even the city auditor Mr. Demas might be found to think Homecoming must be put down because the expenditure for  such a thing could effect the city’s bond rating.

It will now be up to the City Council to save the Homecoming.

In the absence of the superintendent and the mayor advocating for the Homecoming, the City Council, is the celebration’s last  and best hope for resurrection at this point.
