EHS and PJ Softball Teams Prepare For State Tournament

By Lorenzo Recupero

For the first time in a very long time, Pope John and Everett High School will both be sending their softball teams to compete in the postseason.

The Crimson Tide will be entering the MIAA tourney for the first time in three years, while the Tigers are headed to their second consecutive tournament.

And both teams undoubtedly have a lot of motivation to take a hard swing at a state championship.

The Crimson Tide have missed out the last few years, but they’re carrying a mix of juniors and seniors that are finally ready to see what the playoffs has to offer, after helping string together multiple double-digit wins during the regular season. Combine that with a group of freshman and sophomore hitters ready to prove themselves and you’ve got a team prepared to face anyone — and win. To The 482 EHS Grads

At this week’s Everett High School graduation, 482 students will be ending one period of their lives and beginning another.

They will be heading into a rapidly changing world they cannot really imagine at a time when technology far outpaces our capacity to deal with it, when news happens so fast that history becomes obscured in a blur of Internet information.

About 80% of EHS graduates will be attending college.
The other 20% will enter the workforce or the armed forces. We offer our congratulations to this year’s graduates, and to their parents and grandparents.

Let this graduation from Everett High School be the beginning of much bigger things to come for all of you.

Good luck to you all.

Congratulations.

Matewsky At 60

Everyone loves a party, and this includes City Councilor and former state rep. Wayne Matewsky.

He will be celebrating his 60th Birthday Party on Saturday June 9 from 6-10 pm at his residence at 86 Lewis Street.

We will be attending not just because Wayne is a politician, but because he is a friend.

We hope to see you there.

School Safety Enforced

At the high school, for instance, there are two police of cers on duty at all times when school is in session. Also, teachers patrol the front and back doors at all times, which are locked after school begins.

All rooms where students are being instructed during class hours are locked. Everyone has been instructed what to do in case of an emergency.

All of these safety preparations do not preclude the worst thing that can happen – that is – a disaffected school age student shooting his way into any of our schools and attempting to shoot as many children as he can.
