In the coming weeks, Encore Boston Harbor is set to make a wave of layoffs, according to reports Tuesday night.
The approximated 70 non union positions being eliminated included bartenders and other casino workers.
The sprawling casino, which employs thousands of local and regional earners, has fallen short on its revenue projections so far, causing multiple rounds of layoffs and cuts deemed necessary by casino brass based on ‘business’.
“We will continue to right size our business and always do everything we can to provide alternate job opportunities for our employees within our organization,” said Encore in a statement to a local media outlet.
Casino employees, who wished not to be named, spoke directly with the Leader Herald and expressed frustration and fear for their own job security.
“It feels terrible,” said one server of the job cuts. “We all feel really bad. We work very closely with everyone, it’s their livelihoods being affected.”
“Even some higher positions are being cut,” said one back office staff member. “It’s a worry because people, myself included, came into these positions thinking we had long term job security and for some that’s clearly not the case.”
Encore Boston Harbor employed over 4,500 workers at its opening in the Summer.
