The Blue Suit hems and haws

“Something is up with him. I know it is. He’s not himself. He hasn’t been leaving the house. Thats always a bad sign,” the Blue Suit said to me about Carlo.
“What do you think it is?” I asked the Blue Suit.
“I don’t want to go there,” he said politely.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Whatever it is it isn’t good. Something has happened. It’s like he’s hiding out in the house. I’ve seen him like this many times in the past. He gets mean and short and tends to stuff himself with junk food when he’s brooding… or in this case … when he’s hiding out,” the Blue Suit said to me. He wasn’t trying to bring down the mayor. He was speaking about him with a knowing eye for his habits and for his reaction to pressure from the outside as well.
No one knows Carlo better than his Blue Suit. They are often as close to one another as paint is when its spread on a surface to dry.
“What do you think he is hiding out from? Why do you think he’s hiding out? What does that mean?” I asked.
“That’s a lot to answer, Josh. I’ll start with the thought he is hiding out. I have come to understand that when he’s done something that might have set others off, whatever it is, he tries to stay behind closed doors. He hates confrontation andhe doesn’t want it. He’s definitely hiding out. I think I know what it is, but I really don’t want to say.”
“You can tell me,” I told the Blue Suit trying to persuade him to spill the beans on what’s bothering the mayor. The Blue Suit didn’t buy in on that.
Ya. Right, Josh,” he said.
“Like I can trust you to stay quiet about anything I tell you about Carlo. Tell me another fairy tale.”
The Blue Suit continued.
“You know Josh, Carlo is amazed at how you know so much about his motivations. It pisses him off I hear him telling other people during his many cell phone calls when he’s up in arms about you.”
I laughed.
“How can he think Everett people who watch him don’t understand the game he plays perfectly? He’s hypocritical, nasty not so deep down and painfully materialistic. He’s a greedy, back room type of leader. He’s like a guy walking around with jaundice. Everyone notices his yellow skin. There is no way to hide himself in public from being who he is.”
“Do you really think he’s that bad?” the Blue Suit asked. What I said about Carlo made him wonder about him.
“You know what, Josh. I think you’re right about Carlo.”
I tried again to find out what’s keeping the mayor inside at this time.
“Come on. Tell me. What is it? You can whisper it to me. I promise I won’t tell anyone.”
The Blue Suit leaned toward me. He whispered in my ear. “Oh my God. You can’t be serious!” I exclaimed.
“Not so loud, Josh. Keep it down, please.”
I could not believe what the mayor’s Blue Suit told me about the mayor.
The Blue Suit had more for me. He whispered in my ear. Another incredible revelation about Carlo.
“Stop it, please. Can that be true? Is such a thing possible or are you making up a good tale for me to spread around about Carlo?” I asked the Blue Suit.
The Blue Suit motioned for me to lean toward him again. He whispered another secret to me.
I could not believe what the Blue Suit told me. Stunning, really.
“You must be lying through your teeth,” I exclaimed.
“I’m telling you the truth. I heard him talking about it with Jerry,” he said to me.
“Jerry knows?” I asked.
“Jerry knows everything. He knows every detail about the mayor’s new problem,” the Blue Suit said of Jerry. “They had a huge fight about this. Jerry kept goading the mayor until Carlo ordered him to shut his mouth.
“Did Jerry quiet down?” I asked.
“Are you kidding? Jerry knows when he has to stop with Carlo. He is never allowed to forget Carlo employs him and pays him. Why would Jerry not follow the mayor’s orders. He’s giving him a new job and more money,” the Blue Suit revealed.
“What new job?” I asked.
“Director of Public Works.”
“What else is Carlo doing?”
“Robert Moreschi will serve as the new Procurement Officer and Highway Superintendent.”
“Is there more?” I asked.
“Yes,” he answered.
“Kevin O’Donnell will serve as the new Human Resources Director and manager of the Labor Counsel.”
“‘Who else is the mayor giving out jobs to and switching around?”
“Sabrina Firiciano will become the Executive Director of Health and Human Resources. Lara Ammouri will serve as Business Manager/Labor Counsel.”
“Let’s get back to Carlo’s problem. Please tell me. How do you see Carlo’s problem working out?” I asked.
The Blue Suit let out a big sigh.
“With difficulty,” the Blue Suit said.
Everything isn’t fine. The Blue Suit knows it. He has told me all the details.
