Petition calls for ban on sex offenders from working as municipal employees

In 1997 an Everett fireman with 10 years of service was convicted of A&B of a child under the age of 14 and his sentence was «suspended» & he was placed on the sex offender list for 15 years. The City of Everett, MA did nothing; they allowed him to continue working as a firefighter for the next 17 years. Last year, the same person drugged & raped me (5 years after the sex offender listing expired). The City will not answer as to why they allowed a sex offender to work as a firefighter, a public position of trust. How many other sex offenders are working in positions of trust in this City?

I think the citizens of Everett deserve to know in order to protect themselves and their loved ones. Other cities and towns have laws against allowing sex offenders to work as policemen and firemen while active on the sex offender list! This particular individual never spent one day in jail for the first crime nor the sexual assault against me & that is despicable. He should have been fired immediately after being convicted in 1997! The firefighter code of ethics begins with «always conduct myself, on and off duty, in a manner that reflects positively on myself, my department and the fire service in general.» CORI checks are only done when they are hired, therefore they are free to commit crimes. IT IS TIME FOR CHANGE!

Wendy Poste started this petition to City of Everett and Mayor Carlo DeMaria

*Editor’s Note

Last month, Wendy Poste approached the Leader Herald and told us her personal horror story. We published her comments. She then went to city officials and to state officials as well to plead for justice about her situation. She said city officials were polite, but no one was willing to publicly or privately come to her aid. Now comes Ms. Poste’s on-line petition, addressed to the mayor and to the City of Everett. To date, her petition has been signed by more than 700 people. We urge our readers to read her petition and to sign it if you agree with her effort to have justice done.
