Softball drops opener in thrilling last at bat

Crimson Tide softball opened the season Monday, coming up just short as rival Revere High School pulled off the come-from-behind victory on their home field.

Tied, 4-4, in the seventh inning, with two strikes and two outs and a man on second base, Revere hit a timely double to drive in the winning run.

Revere opened the game with a first inning home run off of Celeste Fuccillo to take the lead before the Lady Tide (0-1) stormed back with a 4-run third inning, powered by senior Macayla Bessler’s 2-run double that scored runners Haley Oteri and Kayley Rossi. Bessler also scored a run of her own on a passed ball in the inning.

Fuccillo, the Lady Tide’s ace in the bullpen, didn’t get the win but pitched a complete game to go with seven strikeouts.

The Tide will go up to bat next at Glendale Park on Wednesday against Medford High School. First pitch is scheduled for 4 PM.
