25k worth of city flowers wilt on the vine because of no watering

City officials have privately conceded that about $25,000 of flowers displayed in hanging pots on the city’s light poles have wilted, died, and been thrown away recently because they were not properly watered or watered at all.

Watering during the recent heatwave was not sufficient to save the plants, part of about a $500,000 purchase and placement of flowering plants by the city and displayed throughout the city.

Sources within the Department of Public Works claim after the fact watering failed to save many of the plants.

“The watering just wasn’t kept up with the way it should be,” said a source who wished to remain unnamed.
