Wayne Matewsky returned to city hall Monday night to take over the leadership of the city council again.
“I am pleased and feel blessed to be back here. You cannot imagine how grateful I am to return to the council to serve the people of Everett,” Matewsky told the Leader Herald.
Matewsky’s return follows a remarkable recovery from serious health issues and surgery two months ago.
His return was praised and applauded by his colleagues in government before he took his seat again as the president.
Matewsky appeared to be substantially recovered from the heart attack and heart bypass surgery that followed.
Councilor Anthony DiPierro stepped down from his pro tempore chair position, handing back to Matewsky the gavel.
That had been the plan ever since Matewsky took sick in Florida during an end of winter vacation.
