The Schiavo Club, the Tileston Street landmark so well known for its great public interest in this city and its people, was honored Monday night by the city council.

Accepting the award for the Schiavo Club was well know local resident Stanley Ruggiero.

Council President Wayne Matewsky presented a citation to the club noting that during the past year alone, the Schiavo Club had done the following: 200 dinners delivered to the homes of Everett’s senior citizens; donating $6,000 of toys which filled two city trucks for the Christmas toy drive; made a $1,000 donation to be used for the city’s veterans; and for donating $2,000 of food to the city’s food pantry.

Matewsky said the Schiavo Club goes over and above the call of duty as a social institution with its roots firmly planted in this city for many, many years.

Here at the Leader Herald we know about all the good the Schiavo Club does for the city of Everett.

They are worthy of this city council citation and praise.
