Refering to the Boston Harbor Casino and Hotel as a war zone, Councilor Wayne Matewsky proposed a new public safety facility to be located near the casino and hotel to provide police, fire and medical emergency ambulance assistance when necessary.
He made these comments at Monday night’s council meeting.
“A fire police and ambulance facility is needed and should be provided by Encore. Encore should be responsible for the new public safety building,” Matewsky told his colleagues.
He intimated his ward – he represents the ward where the casino is located – has the constant and unyielding sites and sounds of a battlefield.
“A steady stream of fire engines and police cars on their way to the casino disturbs our peace every night,” he told the Leader Herald after the meeting.
He said the facility should be built in the next few years.
“I’d like to see the resort people pay for it. They should be responsible for the public safety building,” he said.
The issue was referred to the mayor at Matewsky’s request.
