The Independence Day celebration at Glendale Park on Friday, July 1 drew a huge crowd of Everett residents from all walks of life.
Several thousand men, women, and children, families mostly, attended the city-sponsored event.
Many set out blankets and brought refreshments or simply sat on the grass to enjoy the festivities.
The event went off without a hitch.
The Everett Police reported calm and order throughout the day and night.
During the afternoon leading into the evening, Elm Street from the High School entrance to the fire station was blocked to traffic and replaced with music and food venues, a nice touch giving young kids the ability to run around without worrying about automobile traffic.
The fireworks display began at 9:30 p.m. and ran about a half-hour, lighting up the sky and causing loud
booms over the crowd at Glendale Park and throughout the neighborhood.
The end of the fireworks display was followed by a long round of loud applause.
Thick foot traffic on the sidewalks surrounding the park by those returning home spread onto the street and poured into Glendale Square producing a minor traffic jam when the celebration broke up shortly after 10:00 p.m.
A strong police presence aided in maintaining order.
