Kathleen Allen, Jessica Mangan, and Samantha Hurley recognized at the recent annual award ceremony
Special to the Leader Herald
Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSE- MA), the largest girl serving organization in Massachusetts and 9th largest Girl Scout council in the United States, is proud to recognize Kathleen Allen, Jessica Mangan, and Samantha Hurley of Everett as Volunteer Appreciation Award recipients.
Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts celebrated the dedication and skill of their 11,500 volunteers at their annual Volunteer Recognition Celebration, which took place on Friday, May 6, 2022. The 2022 class of GSEMA Volunteer Recognition Honorees included over 50 individual volunteers and six community service units. Volunteer recognition pins are awarded at the council level based on an individual’s exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE), which has had a measurable impact on mission delivery in one (or more) geographic areas of service. Volunteers are eligible every three years.
Kathleen Allen and Jessica Mangan were both awarded the Appreciation Pin and the Rose Award. The Girl Scouts of the USA Appreciation Pin recognizes volunteers actively giving outstanding service in support of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in at least one geographic area or program delivery audience.
The Red Rose Award recognizes a volunteer who actively demonstrates exemplary commitment to the Girl Scout values of diversity, equity and inclusion in support of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in one or more geographic areas. The Red Rose Award invokes the memory of the Red Rose Troop, the first Girl Scout troop in Eastern Massachusetts and the third in the nation. This troop was started by Emma Hall and, in 1913, was the first nationally to welcome African American girls. This troop demonstrates that from the beginning of the Movement, Eastern Massachusetts has been deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion for all girls; this award recognizes the volunteers who carry that commitment forward.
Samantha Hurley was awarded the Honor Pin. The Girl Scouts of the USA Honor Pin recognizes volunteers actively giving outstanding service in support of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in two or more geographic areas.
