Undefeated professional boxer Kenny Larson (6-0) will enter the ring against fellow undefeated fighter Denzel Whitley (10-0) on March 11 at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, MA.
The scheduled 8-rounder will headline as the main event of the Springfield Championship Boxing 2 showcase, presented by Granite Chin Promotions (GCP).
Larson will be vying for the Massachusetts State Welterweight Championship currently held by Whitley.
“This fight has all the makings to be one of those local fights that people talk about for years,” GCP president Chris Traietti said to World Boxing News.
Everett native and longtime boxing manager Dennis Wilcox, who manages Larson out of Broadway Boxing Club alongside trainer Joe Ricciardi, said his fighter isn’t nicknamed “Lionheart” for no reason.
“He’s not the flashiest fighter, but he’s definitely one of the hardest workers,” said Wilcox, who has trained Larson since he became a professional boxer just over two years ago. Larson had fought in 35 amateur fights prior to going pro.
“He fights with grit and heart. He has both great conditioning and the heart of a lion. As a fighter, that can work for you against anyone,” said Wilcox.
Larson also trains and spars at Broadway Boxing with other well-known and established Massachusetts fighters such as undefeated James Perkins (11-0), of Lynn, Greg Vendetti, and New England Amateur Champion Gilbert Kabamba.
The championship bout of undefeated fighters will be streamed live on BXNGTV.com.
