Will open season Monday against Malden
By Lorenzo Recupero
Under the tutelage of longtime head coach Stacy Schiavo, who has dedicated a quarter century of service to her alma mater, the Lady Tide have evolved into a perennial playoff team.
With a combined 11 returning starters and letterman from a season ago, a head coach with 25 years experience, and the hunger to win more than a league title, the Everett High School Lady Tide are looking sharp heading into the 2023 softball season.
After missing out on three consecutive playoff trips prior to 2018, since then the Tide have made several postseason runs, emerging as one of the definitive forces of Eastern Massachusetts HS softball.
Relying on a upperclassman-led squad this year, coach Schiavo and the Tide are working to start the season with an opening day win against rival Malden High School.
EHS Softball 2023 Preseason Preview
Head coach: Stacy Schiavo
Coaching experience: 25th season Team record last season: 16-5 (including playoffs)
Playing field: Natural grass (Glendale Park field)
Returning starters: 11
Team concerns: Remaining healthy
Team strengths: Defense, overall experience
Players to watch: Senior captains Kayley Rossi (catcher), Kristi Skane (pitcher) and Julian Curran (outfielder)
Outlook: The Lady Tide ended the successful 2022 regular season at 16-4, sharing the Greater Boston League Championship with Lynn Classical. But with 11 returning starters and a league record of 12-2 a year ago, it’s probably safe to think the Tide will be in the GBL driver seat again this year. And last year’s 2-1 opening round playoff loss to Concord-Carlisle is an added layer of motivation for a team that has major strength and experience in key positions, including at pitcher, catcher, and outfield. “We had such a great year last year and the girls are determined to win another league title this year. This team is made up of a great group of girls that are not taking one thing for granted,” said EHS coach Stacey Schiavo. “Our goal is to take it one game at a time, ending with another GBL title.”
Opening game: Monday, April 3rd @ Malden HS at 4PM.
