Top GBL rival Malden

Crimson Tide softball and head coach Stacy Schiavo got the season started on the right foot, topping Malden High School 12-0 behind a 9-strikeout effort from senior pitcher Kristi Skane.

Skane started the match by striking out Malden’s first two batters and finished with no walks and only one hit allowed in five innings of shutout work on the mound.

Skane’s masterful play didn’t stop there.

In a loaded second inning for the Crimson Tide, who enjoyed a 10-hit effort on the night, she added to the scoring, hitting a double to bring home two runs and again in the fourth inning she singled to outfield to bring home Emma Longmore from second base.

By the end of the second inning, the Lady Tide were already up 6-0.

Coach Schiavo was pleased with how Skane and the entire team performed in their statement win on opening day.

“These girls came ready to play,” said Schiavo, who is starting her 25th year with the team. “Kristi Skane did an amazing job on the mound with Kayley Rossi being solid behind the plate. They did not allow much play in the field. However, when the ball was hit, Bryanna Mason and Emma Longmore made the plays,” said Schiavo. “Starting off the season with a win is always a positive and booster. I am hopeful this enthusiasm continues,” she said.

The Lady Tide and Schiavo will host Chelsea High School on the diamond at Glendale Park on Wednesday, April 5th at 4:00PM.
