Someone asked the question recently why Everett residents who don’t have children in the school system would care about what goes on there. And there’s been a lot of talk that people have complained about the Superintendent, completely disregarding the children’s input, which is that they love her. Some of them have told us that at School Committee and City Council meetings. You just wanna ignore them?
Why on earth would that person condone putting politics above the well-being of our little ones?
That person asked the wrong question. Why don’t all of us care about children? Why on earth would that person condone putting politics above the well-being of our little ones? But if he or she votes for ‘Old Everett,’ that’s exactly what they’re doing.
Speaking only for myself, I like children. I like the way being around them reminds me to get excited and enthusiastic about things, especially the little things in life that we grownups take for granted. Who can look at a child’s face all lit up with having learned something new, and NOT feel better about the world?
I love reading, and I hope that children will share pleasure, which they cannot if they’re not taught how to read.
If those aren’t enough reasons to cherish children, I think that person and those who ask the same stupid question may have the bad karma they’re putting out come back to bite them. When you’re old and feeble and unable to take care of yourself, who’s going to be in charge? The people who are children now. Please, God, be kinder to those unenlightened folks than they are being to children now. Please don’t let those children grow up to despise the elders who ignored them when they were young.
Amen
