To some, Everett has long been the mecca of Massachusetts high school football.

Many names have carved out legendary status for themselves here at Everett Veterans Memorial Stadium.

This year’s crop of stars will try to add a few more names to the list as they are led into the trenches by second-year head coach Robert DiLoreto, who preaches a team-first mentality as he looks to preserve and carry on the “Everett Football Family” tradition of excellence.

With the 2021 season set to kick off next Friday, let’s delve into what will keep this year’s edition of the Crimson Tide running.

Running on Empty

By STEVEN PINTO

Clearly, Mayor DeMaria is not a proud and content mayor. He refuses to debate What is he afraid of? If he feels his accomplishments are so wonderful then why won’t he debate?

We have a mayor that is afraid to debate. If you want respect and want to act like a big city mayor then you must debate. This country was built on debating and still is.

A mayor that disbanded the library board of trustees. He gave these jobs to his friends and family.

MAYOR DEMARIA

A mayor that was accused of sexual misconduct.

A mayor that allowed ECTV to supposedly get hacked. Allowing the theft of a disgusting racially charged council meeting tape. A meeting where councilors openly attacked Gerly Adrien.

A mayor that laid out ten million to purchase Pope John. Not even telling anyone he wanted to do this. And he had no documentation discussing the purchase with the Archdiocese of Boston. According to the mayor, it was all verbal. That is a scary thought.

A mayor that wants to remove the new school superintendent. The mayor feels that Pryia Tahiliani has three strikes against her. One is being a woman. The second is her race. The third is she won’t put up with his BS.

A mayor who has utter contempt for his opponent Gerly Adrien. For the same reasons, he dislikes Pryia Tahiliani.

A mayor that had to be deposed by the FBI over the shady casino land deal.

The Blue Suit reveals secrets

“I never believed he was such a common crook.”

– The mayor’s Blue Suit talking about Carlo to Josh Resnek

By JOSH RESNEK

The pressure of the campaign has been getting to the mayor’s Blue Suit.

The mayor’s Blue Suit told me Tuesday afternoon he felt terrific pressure coming from the mayor. He said the mayor’s attitude had gone from rotten to worse than rotten, that his greed had turned to avarice, and that the mayor’s bullying tendencies were at an all-time high.

‘He is not dealing well with the pressure caused by having two candidates who are going after him. Don’t forget, Carlo hasn’t had a real candidate in 14 years,” the Blue Suit recalled.

“Remember Bob Van Campen’s campaign?” the Blue Suit asked me.

“Yes of course I remember his campaign. It was an exercise in futility by a pretty smart guy who should have known better. Some candidates fight to win and some fight to lose. Bob didn’t fight much. He lost convincingly,” I told the Blue Suit.

“I don’t see any comparison to Van Campen with Capone and Adrien,” I added.

“You’re right about that, Josh,” the Blue Suit said to me.

We were, as usual, driving around in my red Honda Fit, kind of gazing at the Everett landscape and talking about our favorite subject, Kickback Carlo.

“He hates being called Kickback,” the Blue Suit reminded me.

“No kidding,” I replied. “Not many seem to mind that he’s called Kickback. A lot of folks who work for him laugh among themselves about such an assignation.”

“They laugh about the hassles he’s had losing control of himself with women. The same people who give Carlo a pass as Kickback give him a similar pass with the sexual assault and harassment allegations,” the Blue Suit added.

I thought about this for a moment – that is – that Carlo’s personal history is checkered, really checkered. In some respects, his personal history is appalling, yet he gets a break from many Everett people.

Endless summer

The endless summer at Santa Monica Beach in California. (Photo by Josh Resnek)

Santa Monica Beach, California – I hate leaving Massachusetts at the end of summer.

My daughter is spending her last semester at BU’s School of Communications with an internship at CBS in Los Angeles.

I am writing this bit from California.

We all came out to California to make sure she’s set up appropriately.

This obliterated the general end of summer reverie when we try to come to terms with the summer irretrievably gone while at the same time attempting not to grow depressed that life is about to change with the seasons, again.

The beach at Santa Monica is divine.

panache. On this stretch of beach men and women are doing yoga, playing music, walking on tightropes, riding bicycles, falling in love, falling out of love, loving their lives, hat- ing their lives but somehow surviving amidst the warmth and welcome so much a part of the California coast and its people.

City holds its breath as new cases mount

By JOSH RESNEK

Testing and vaccinations continue in Everett while at the same time new cases of the COVID and the more deadly variant are popping up in increasing numbers.

Everett city government has not proposed plans to deal with this new onslaught of the virus that wreaked havoc all last year causing thousands to get sick and hundreds to die.

At the state level, the governor and state health officials remain confident that a return to yesterday will not be occurring here.

However, the resurgence of the virus and the variant are now running amok, especially in those states where much of the population believes the virus, the sickness it causes, and deaths are a government plot.

The largest number of new cases everywhere is coming from the parts of the population that have refused to be vaccinated.

Refusing vaccination for those with pre-existing medical conditions and now for school-age youth, can be a death sentence.

Many supporters of former President Donald Trump believe masks are useless and that the vaccines are loaded with mind-controlling or lethal ingredients.

The facemasks controversy has been the cause for the widespread of the virus.
