The Crimson Tide officially made it past the bar set a year ago by its predecessors.

With the 33-14 win over host Taunton High School on Friday, the Crimson Tide advanced past the first round of the MIAA playoffs setting up a quarterfinal meeting with Central Catholic on Friday, November 11 (7PM) at Lawrence Stadium.

A year ago, the Tide (8-1) couldn’t make it past the Round of 16, but senior quarterback Karmarri Ellerbe made sure to make the most of his second postseason start to help push the team over the top, rushing for two touchdowns and throwing for another on a 62-yard strike to Giacobbe Ward in the first half.

Ellerbe’s elusiveness provided the decisive X-Factor in the win, helping to extend the Tide’s win streak to eight games.

Crimson Tide Take GBL Title

Will face Taunton High in playoffs

By Lorenzo Recupero

Led by three rushing touchdowns from Damien Lackland, the Crimson Tide captured its 35th Greater Boston League title with ease Friday night, ousting the Lynn Classical Rams 31-0.

The highly anticipated matchup against the Rams (5-2) pinned the GBL’s top two teams against one another and the Tide came out on top, earning a sure spot in the MIAA playoffs behind their fourth shutout of the season.

The 2022 MIAA tourney bracket released Monday revealed the Tide (7-1), who are the 11th seed, will compete in the postseason against the 6th seed in Taunton High School (5- 3). Their opening round matchup will be played Friday, November 4th at Taunton HS at 7 p.m.

The Tide’s seventh straight win earned third-year Everett coach Robert DiLoreto his second GBL title.

“We want to build excellence in the GBL, so this is a very special way for us as a program and for me as a coach, as an Everett native, to know that I’m part of two championships now that we are officially back in the GBL,” said Diloreto.

With the 42-6 win over rival Malden, the Crimson Tide are one win away from capturing the Greater Boston League Title and a guaranteed spot in the MIAA postseason.

In order to do so, they’ll have to come up big against another GBL rival in the stout Lynn Classical Rams.

Both squads are meeting at the height of their competitive seasons, too, with the Rams (5-1) on a 4-game win streak and the Crimson Tide (6-1) riding a 6-game win streak into the decisive matchup.

To be victorious against Lynn Classical, the Tide will need their strong defensive play from the win over Malden to carry over.

The Rams average 28 points per game, making them one of the best scoring teams the Tide have matched up with thus far.

Crimson Tide Coach Robert DiLoreto is getting the team ready for what should be a competitive game.

“We are preparing hard for Lynn Classical. They are a team that is well-coached, they play fast, physical and disciplined football,” said DiLoreto. “Our team will need to play our very best football on Friday night in all three phases of the game,” he said.

Zappe Come, Zappe Go

By Lorenzo Recupero

Surely there’s an ongoing discussion gong down in the New England Patriots’ executive offices following the dominant 38-15 win over the Cleveland Browns Sunday afternoon.

Patriots rookie quarterback Bailey Zappe against the Cleveland Browns.

You won’t hear it from Bill Belichick in any report or post-game presser, but there IS a quarterback controversy brewing in Foxborough, MA.

And if rookie QB Bailey Zappe continues playing like he has over the past three games, his success may spill over and carry him into the starting gig for the Patriots.

In the win over Cleveland, Zappe’s third game under center and second as a starter, he put up 309 yards through the air to go with two touchdown passes. He completed 24 of 34 pass attempts to cap a phenomenal performance in which he earned a quarterback rating of 118.40.

Now, to gain some perspective on just how special his latest effort was, let’s compare Zappe’s last start to recent performances from a couple NFL legends. On Sunday, Tom Brady (87.8) and Aaron Rodgers (73.8) both combined for a lower rating (80.80) in their losses, respectively.

Week 6 in the NFL was like a revealing of the new guard, chain of command in the league in some regards and Zappe led the charge.
