Capone Endorses Mike Marchese For State Rep Over Joe McGonagle

Leader Herald Staff

Former city councilor attorney Fred Capone, the runner-up in a close contest for mayor last time out, and the leader of the opposition now confronting the administration, has endorsed state rep candidate Councilor Mike Marchese.

Capone said Marchese is the better man for the job now up for grabs.

“Since 2019, Mike and I fought to use Pope John High School as a school for Everett students to alleviate overcrowding. Mike continues that fight!” Capone told the Leader Herald.

“Mike doesn’t serve special interests or developers, he always puts constituents first. Period,” Capone added.

Capone’s endorsement is a symbolic gesture which finds the former mayoral candidate continuing his campaign long after his election loss by 210 votes last November.

Adrien’s endorsement a message

By endorsing Councilor Capone’s mayoral candidacy, Councilor Adrien is drawing a line in the sand.

She has said that she will not endorse and could never endorse the current mayor for a wide variety of personal and political reasons.

Her endorsement of Capone puts an exclamation point to Adrien’s thinking about who ought to be the next mayor of Everett, and what might he be bringing to city hall?

The line in the sand she has drawn is between her and the mayor.

He can’t stand her. She wants no part of him.

Capone, on the other hand, is more of Adrien’s type of candidate.

He is honest. He has personal integrity. He keeps his word. He is careful, thoughtful, incisive and he is ever the thinking man’s lawyer about many things.

Capone’s perspectives on life vastly differ from the mayor’s. Adrien perceives the mayor as someone who does not care for her, not just because she is Black and successful, but because she’s , Black and successful.

I SUPPORT FRED CAPONE FOR MAYOR!

Everett faces perhaps the most pivotal election in our city’s history. I’m hoping by now everyone understands the character of the man who works in the corner office on the 3rd floor of City Hall. If not, Google It. To save you some effort, I’ll just tell my story:

Twenty years ago, I was a volunteer on Jarrett Barrios’ campaign for State Senate. Former Senator Barrios had an opponent in that campaign, Alderman Carlo DeMaria.

At the time, I wrote a letter to the editor of a local paper in response to an attack advertisement that was run against Senator Barrios. My letter contained nothing negative, just positive messaging for the campaign I was heavily involved in.
