In a battle of two high-powered offenses, the Attleboro Bombardiers put together multiple runs and held-off numerous comeback attempts amid a fast-paced victory over the Crimson Tide Monday night.

The loss dropped the Crimson Tide to 10-11 overall on the year as the Bombardiers ran away with a 67-55 wire-to-wire victory.

EHS senior guard Steven Cordero put forth the contests best effort, with a game-high 22 points, including some clutch baskets to keep his team close just before and after halftime, but ultimately a slew of 3-pointers from Attleboro kept the Tide within arm’s length.

The Bombardiers opened the game with a quick 5 point run but the Tide remained aggressive on the boards to pull within four points as the first quarter finished with Attleboro up 17-13.

The Crimson Tide ran into their playoff nemesis Friday night, dropping yet another postseason matchup to Central Catholic High School.

The 21-0 loss in the MIAA Division 1 Quarterfinals is the only time Everett was held scoreless all season long.

The meeting was the seventh playoff battle in 10 years between the Tide (8-2) and Central Catholic (8-2), who now lead the overall series 6-2.

The game was ultimately as competitive as expected, but turnovers and untimely penalties were the Crimson Tide’s undoing.

“We had our chances,” said Everett head coach Robert DiLoreto. “But we committed a few bad penalties, a fumble; you do those things against Central Catholic, you’re probably in trouble,” he said.

In the end, it was back-breaking big plays that led to victory for Central Catholic.

The Crimson Tide officially made it past the bar set a year ago by its predecessors.

With the 33-14 win over host Taunton High School on Friday, the Crimson Tide advanced past the first round of the MIAA playoffs setting up a quarterfinal meeting with Central Catholic on Friday, November 11 (7PM) at Lawrence Stadium.

A year ago, the Tide (8-1) couldn’t make it past the Round of 16, but senior quarterback Karmarri Ellerbe made sure to make the most of his second postseason start to help push the team over the top, rushing for two touchdowns and throwing for another on a 62-yard strike to Giacobbe Ward in the first half.

Ellerbe’s elusiveness provided the decisive X-Factor in the win, helping to extend the Tide’s win streak to eight games.

A renewed rivalry is brewing between Medford and Everett High Schools.

In Friday’s second round MIAA Division 1 playoff bout at Medford HS, the two sides met for the third time this season, with Medford besting the Crimson Tide 4-3 in penalty kicks.

In their two regular-season meetings, both 1-1 ties, undefeated Medford was really put to the test but couldn’t take down the Tide (12-2-3) until the playoffs, EHS’ first visit to the tournament in 3 years.

Although Medford (13-0-4) is moving on to the next round, the slim margin in skill and style separating the two sides caused a friction all season that has really relit the rivalry flame between the two Greater Boston League counterparts.

“The rivalry has been restarted,” said third-year EHS head coach Pedro Blas. “In general, with our schools being traditional rivals and our team continuously getting better, it was clear they wanted it and we wanted it bad, too,” said Blas.
