A July 4 lobster dinner at a friend’s house

By JOSH RESNEK

I eat lobster once or twice a year.

When lobster rolls weren’t $30 – $50 as they are today, I used to enjoy them a half dozen times a year.

I have lost much of my fascination with lobster. The higher prices are one thing. My desire for lobster going down is another.

I don’t know what it is. lobster just doesn’t turn me on as a food treat the way it used to.

That being said, I was invited with my wife to a best friend’s home for a late afternoon lobster treat on July 3.

Frankly, I was looking forward to it as I hadn’t eaten lobster since last year.

Please keep in mind, our best friend is what my late father would have called “well to do.” She lives very comfortably in a large home down the street from mine.

Despite having millions of dollars on hand, she is a Market Basket devote, with an eye always on saving money, cutting expenses, buying food at the right price, and on and on.

She would rather cut her arms off than pay $49.95 a pound for lobster meat out of the shell. I share her general feeling about that, by the way.

City Digs Out from Major Storm

Biggest Snowfall in Years Buries City

By Josh Resnek

Saturday’s snow storm, called a “bomb cyclone” by weather forecasters, dumped more than 2 feet of snow on New England – and even more in some places.

It was not the Blizzard of 1978. However the snowfall was substantial. It caused the public schools to be closed and for the most part, the city has come back to life but at a much slower pace.

Snow removal efforts will likely go on for much of the week.

Luckily for all of us, the snowfall was extremely fluffy and not dense and thick.

Everett’s first responders got through the storm without major incidents.

As the week began, temperatures remained icy cold, not rising much out of the teens.

Monday and Tuesday had high temperatures of 25 degrees.

A mild winter so far

With February reaching its end with the snap of finger, many of us take joy that the winter has been neither cold nor snowy.

Those of us who have lived through many a New England winter understand that March can turn into winter when our minds are already wandering toward the spring.

That’s what we have watch for carefully.

Thinking the winter is over is always a mistake.

The moment we exult in a warm day at the beginning of March we are hit by a snowstorm or two and below freezing temperatures, ice and high winds.

It was another historic moment for New England sports fans, and Tom Brady’s arms raised high says it all.

We all watched an extraordinary football contest on Sunday – the aging quarterback GOAT – versus the coming up fast next generation superstar Mahomes.

Let it be remembered that on this night in 2019, we watched one of the most competitive and exciting four-plus quarters of AFC Championship football ever played.

Let it also be remembered that five years from now, such raised arms in the air by a shouting Tom Brady will be a thing of the past – and the glory days of this team something to be savored whenever looking back.

Watching Tom Brady is like watching Babe Ruth. Each time he takes the field, it is another miraculous moment in a past 20 years filled with them.
