Earlier this month Everett’s golden boy, Ryan Pietrantonio, vying for a spot in USA Olympic trials, stepped back Into the ring representing New England in the USA Boxing National Tournament, but things did not finish how he expected.

After taking down his first opponent in the opening round, Pietrantonio was up against the tourneys number 1 seed, Lavars Carter of Ohio. Carter dropped Pietrantonio in the first round after connecting on what looked like an illegal shot to the back of the head, which lead to the refs stoppage of the fight, all but clipping Pietrantonio’s chances of winning the single-elimination tournament.

Dilboy Down, Nationals to Go

Everett boxer Ryan Pietrantonio already cemented himself in Everett lore after punching his way to the New England Golden Gloves Championship earlier this year. Now, with his 12th victory coming by way of unanimous decision over Josh Raineri at the annual Fight Night at Dilboy event in Somerville this past weekend, he’s looking to spread word of his talents and knock down the competition at USA Boxing’s largest tournament of the year.

“I plan to pick up my training, do a lot more strength and conditioning and focus a little less on the skill part. I wanna be in super shape and strong [for nationals],” said Pietrantonio after getting the fight at Dilboy Stadium Saturday, his last before going to compete in USA Boxing’s National Tournament in October is n Ohio.

Until then, Pietrantonio says he’s got to ramp up the workload if he plans to come back home a national welterweight champion.

Dilboy Fight Night to Feature Everett Talent

If you’re looking for some live outdoor entertainment this weekend, Everett boxer Ryan Pietrantonio is getting back in the ring for an outdoor fight night hosted by the Somerville Youth Development & Boxing Club.

The annual event, dubbed Fight Night at Dilboy, is set for Saturday, August 17 from 6-11PM at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville.

The show stages over two fists full of boxing matches, with one of them featuring Pietrantonio (11-1 overall), who will be looking for a change of fortune in his second appearance at the event after suffering his only loss in the ring there two years ago.
