Sal DiDomenico’s legacy

The death over the weekend of Sal DiDomenico, the father of State Senator Sal DiDomenico, brings to an end the charmed life of a hard working and generous man who left this earth after spending a lifetime doing for others, and for his family, whom he loved.

Senator Sal wrote an impressive farewell to his father on his Facebook page – a long, passionate, personal message about his Dad that should be read. If you are a Facebook fan, go to the Senator Sal DiDomenico site and read it.

It reveals a side of Senator Sal’s humanity we do not ordinarily come in contact with.

Those of us who know Senator Sal understand this – he is humble and decent. He is above all a family man. He loves his work, and he loved his father, dearly.

The son, in other words, has become his father, as most of us tend to do during a long life.

In this instance, the son becoming the father is the guarantee that the father’s shadow will always be a part of him.

This is again a good thing because his father, a popular and beloved figure in East Cambridge where owned a florist shop, taught his son how to maneuver in the world.

We express our condolences to the DiDomenico Family, to Senator Sal and to his sisters and family and to his mother.

His father left the family something that can’t be bought – and that’s a good name.
