Steve Anzalone, stand out legendary Crimson Tide athlete dead at 70

One of the Crimson Tides all time great athletes Steven Anzalone died April 2.

The three sport standout in football, baseball and basketball was 70 years old.

Mr. Anzalone, who was a graduate of Boston College, was known as a rugged and feared competitor as a linebacker, tight end and as a tackler for the EHS football team.

He was the starting center and leading rebounder for the basketball team – and at 6’ 2” was a dominant force on the basketball court.

When Anzalone was a senior, City Councilor and former EHS football great Mike Marchese was a teammate.

“Steve was a tough guy, a nice guy, and a great friend. Everett has lost one of its most celebrated sports ambassadors and players of all time,” he told the Leader Herald.

He was born in Everett to the late Giro and Carmella Anzalone in 1953.

Anzalone graduated from EHS in the Class of 1971.

He attended Boston College where he played football and became a member of the BC football brotherhood.

For many years he headed up the Probation Department in the Malden District Court.

Anzalone leaves his wife of 46 years Kathleen and three children, Stephen Anzalone and his wife Melissa, Kathryn Long and her husband Bryan of Braintree and Jason Anzalone and his wife of East Boston.

He leaves five grandchildren, Rocco, Giuliana, Ethan, Elliot and Mia.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Francis Xavier Church in Weymouth. His cremation followed.
