Jason Marcus Is Right

School committeeman Jason Marcus asked for a point of personal privilege (that probably was not a point of personal privilege) at the beginning of Monday night’s school committee meeting.

Marcus explained to his colleagues his exasperation and fears related to remarks by former president Donald Trump that made the rounds of national and international media Monday that the US Constitution ought to be abolished.

Trump essentially said the constitution should be done away with because his election had been stolen.

Marcus was visibly upset by this.

He tried his best to express himself about the importance of the US Constitution to the continuation of democracy and order in the United States.

COVID Changed Our World

We are longer than a year past the end of COVID.

Make no mistake, COVID rocked our world.

COVID changed our world.

The United States is a far different place today than when the COVID pandemic shut down our world and sent us inside away from each other.

The colossal impact of shutting down our society in 2020 has not entirely been replaced by a return to normalcy.

Our city’s downtown areas remain largely empty by comparison to the way they were before the pandemic, a dramatic change for which there seems to be no simple antidote.

The unrestrained nature of life seems to have coalesced into something far different than nearly all of us experienced before the pandemic.

We no longer rush to be among thousands of people in crowded downtowns or stadiums or concert venues.

Popular HBO show “White Lotus” Highlights The Very Rich Vacationing Outrageously In Sicily And Palermo

By Josh Resnek

Like most of you Everett television viewers I’ve got HBO and once a week, I’ve been tuning in to “White Lotus,” one of the most popular HBO series now airing.

If you’ve been watching all along, then you know what it’s all about.

If you haven’t been watching, you should be.

If you are Everett Italian and have a love for old Italy in all its grandeur, then this series is a must.

Above all, it is great entertainment with a brilliant cast and some very crispy writing.

Sicily has never looked more gorgeous.

The scenes along the coast where only the world’s richest can afford to stay at a ritzy If you’ve been watching all along, the rich and the famous, mostly white men and women enjoying the best Sicily has to offer.

A ten day stay at White Lotus is $7,000.

That’s well worth it from what I can see.

The Politicians Stole Christmas, Again

By Stephen Pinto

With all of Everett’s growth our taxes are still going to increase.

It’s clear now that the city council will never cut wasteful spending from the mayor’s budget.

After approving a one million dollar boat house to be built on the Malden river there is a good reason to begin looking more closely at expenditures and what makes sense to do and what does not.

The mayor and the city council need to start looking at spending in a much more serous and sensible manner.

Such as do we need it or is it just a nice thing to have.

Do we really need a boat house or is it nice to have?

Clearly the answer is we don’t need it. We can and will function quite well without it.

Did we need millions of dollars in decorative street lighting?

Mayor said to be seeking SC chairmanship

By Josh Resnek

It has been several weeks since the school committee requested the city council to urge the mayor to get the rehabilitation of the former Pope John facility going.

The hope was for a request for proposal (RFP) to be prepared by the mayor’s office and officially posted for public scrutiny by the city to attract qualified builders that will seek to become the contractor for the rehabilitation project.

That project is expected to cost at least $76 million, as requested by the mayor.

It was the mayor’s request of the school committee and the city council that the gold standard be used.

He said, at the time if this is what the school committee and city council were in favor of, if this was the will of these two elected government bodies, that he would follow through with the project.

In the meantime, nothing public has materialized with regard to the posting of an RFP. There have been no public communications between the mayor and the school committee an or the city council.
